The Delicious Red Pig Bar B Q tradition started in 1958, Charlie Wilson opened the Red Pig Bar B Q for the very first time in a small building on the corner of Unaka and Oakland Avenue. The Red Pig has continued their tradition of smoking the bbq fresh everyday for years!
The Red Pig has changed ownership several times. After about 20 years of ownership, Mr. Wilson sold the Red Pig to Tom Carr who would eventually move the Red Pig to Walnut st in the heart of downtown Johnson City. Currently the Red Pig is located on Ferguson Rd near the Mall in Johnson City and is owned and operated by Mel Bentley.
Mr. Bentley hand picks the meat first hand, as well as fresh produce everyday from local sources to prepare every meal from scratch. Mr. Bentley firmly believes in not only shopping locally, but also supporting local causes. Since attaining ownership of the Red Pig in 2012, Mr. Bentley has led the Red Pig to be more charitable. Currently they support the homeless, Carver Park, local schools and other charitable causes.
